Business: Investment in new grads’ training

A new alliance between education business VetPrac and a small group of dedicated companies is ensuring new graduates have the chance to develop skills that will help them bridge the gap between theory and practice.

An investment of over $30,000 will be awarded to graduates in 2014 with help from Aesculap, IM3, Medical Plus and Norbrook.

The award winners will attend one of VetPrac’s popular workshops and receive assistance with travel to and from their training.

VetPrac is a leading supplier of practical courses, with attendees travelling from overseas to participate. Workshops include training in wound management, surgical oncology, rabbit surgery, dentistry, cardiac ultrasound, stifle surgery, advanced orthopaedics and ophthalmology.

“We all remember what it’s like to have heaps of textbook knowledge, but little surgical practice,” VetPrac’s Ilana Mendels said. “It’s terrifying! Our vision is clear: find constructive ways for vets to build skills, so they can thrive in practice confidently.”

VetPrac workshops aim to recreate a clinical environment with the support of specialists and tutors who can nurture skills needed to get the job done.
