Australian\nmusician Warren Ellis has provided financial backing to a sanctuary dedicated\nto the protection of Indonesian wildlife. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nDirty Three\/Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds member\u2019s support has enabled the\nexpansion of the Sumatran Wildlife Centre, a facility for the rehabilitation of\nvictims of the illegal wildlife trade established by veterinary paramedic Femke\nden Haas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nCentre now includes the adjoining Ellis Park, a 5000 square metre sanctuary to\nhouse animals too traumatised or handicapped to be released back into the\nwild. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nwas first introduced to Femke and her work with animal protection in Indonesia\nby my old mate Lorinda Jane in February 2021,\u201d Ellis said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWithin\nthe space of 30 seconds I knew I wanted to support Femke and her cause \u2026 I was\nblown away by what she has achieved, she is a force of nature.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ellis Park is also due to be used to educate locals and tourists about\nthe negative impacts of wildlife smuggling and the illegal pet trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
