{"id":2791,"date":"2021-07-23T16:37:46","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T06:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theveterinarian.com.au\/?p=2791"},"modified":"2021-07-09T16:41:40","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T06:41:40","slug":"new-wsava-committee-to-focus-on-reproduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theveterinarian.com.au\/?p=2791","title":{"rendered":"New WSAVA committee to focus on reproduction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The&nbsp;World Small Animal Veterinary Association&nbsp;has convened\na new&nbsp;Committee to focus on ensuring\nthat&nbsp;veterinarians&nbsp;globally&nbsp;have access to the latest resources\nand knowledge on the rapidly evolving area of reproduction&nbsp;control.\nThe&nbsp;Reproduction&nbsp;Control&nbsp;Committee is chaired by Stefano\nRomagnoli, a European Veterinary Specialist in Animal Reproduction&nbsp;(Dipl\nECAR)&nbsp;from the University of Padua in Italy&nbsp;and a member&nbsp;of\nAssociazione Italiana Veterinari Piccoli Animali and is comprised of\nreproduction experts from around the world. They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Kaywalee Chatdarong, Thailand, Professor of Theriogenology at\nChulalongkorn University in Thailand&nbsp;and founder of&nbsp;the Thai Board of\nTheriogenology. She is a member of the Veterinary Practitioners\u2019 Association of\nThailand.<\/li><li>Kurt de Cramer, South Africa, a&nbsp;Veterinary&nbsp;Specialist\nin&nbsp;Reproduction and&nbsp;practices as general practitioner and\ntheriogenologist. He&nbsp;is a&nbsp;guest&nbsp;lecturer\nat&nbsp;the&nbsp;Faculty of&nbsp;Veterinary&nbsp;Science, University\nof&nbsp;Pretoria&nbsp;and a member of the South African Veterinary Association<\/li><li>Michelle Kutzler, USA, Board-Certified in\nTheriogenology&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;full&nbsp;professor of Companion Animal\nIndustries at Oregon State University, USA. She is a member of the American\nVeterinary Medical Association (AVMA)<\/li><li>Natali Krekeler, Australia, Board-Certified in theriogenology&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;senior&nbsp;lecturer\nat the University of Melbourne, Australia. She is a member of Australian Small\nAnimal Veterinarians.<\/li><li>Rob McCarthy, USA, Board Certified in Veterinary Surgery&nbsp;with\na&nbsp;special interest in reproductive control in dogs and cats and the\nmanagement of feral cat populations.&nbsp; He&nbsp;teaches&nbsp;at the Cummings\nSchool of Veterinary&nbsp;Medicine at Tufts University in the\nUSA&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;is a member of the AVMA<\/li><li>Sabine Sch\u00e4fer-Somi, a European Veterinary Specialist in Animal\nReproduction&nbsp;(Dipl ECAR)&nbsp;and&nbsp;teaches&nbsp;at&nbsp;the University\nof Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria.&nbsp;She is a member of\nVereinigung&nbsp;Oesterreichischer Klientiermediziner.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As a first step, the&nbsp;new&nbsp;Committee is conducting a survey of\nWSAVA members to explore priorities for education and advice.&nbsp;It will then\nget to work creating tools, educational resources and continuing\neducational&nbsp;content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Romagnoli says:&nbsp;\u201cGiving advice on reproduction or its\ncontrol and carrying out spaying and neutering procedures&nbsp;often&nbsp;form\na large part of a general clinician\u2019s work.&nbsp; Many of\nour&nbsp;members&nbsp;are&nbsp;also actively involved\nin&nbsp;large-scale&nbsp;spay-neuter programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe aim to&nbsp;help&nbsp;members make science-based choices for the\nmanagement of reproduction in their patients, while safeguarding animal welfare\nand supporting the human-companion animal\nbond.&nbsp;We&nbsp;will&nbsp;offer&nbsp;them&nbsp;the latest information to\nhelp them make recommendations as to the most appropriate approach to\nneutering&nbsp;for their patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are also working with the WSAVA\u2019s Animal Wellness and Welfare\nCommittee to deliver a set of&nbsp;minimum standards of care for companion\nanimals put forward&nbsp;for spay-neuter programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WSAVA\nrepresents more than 200,000 veterinarians worldwide through its\n115&nbsp;member associations and works to enhance standards of clinical care\nfor companion animals.
