{"id":2808,"date":"2021-08-07T15:59:48","date_gmt":"2021-08-07T05:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theveterinarian.com.au\/?p=2808"},"modified":"2021-08-05T16:06:17","modified_gmt":"2021-08-05T06:06:17","slug":"in-memoriam-frazer-allan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theveterinarian.com.au\/?p=2808","title":{"rendered":"In memoriam: Frazer Allan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Professor Frazer Allan has passed away from a heart attack, the University of Sydney has announced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Head of School and Dean of the\nSchool of Veterinary Science died on June 24, and is survived by his wife\nLeith, children Sophie, Fergus, Phoebe and Felix, and family from Australia and\nNew Zealand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from the Faculty of Science\nsaid Allan brought private practice and veterinary education closer together\nduring his distinguished career.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrazer\u2019s experience in private\npractice and veterinary education made him an exceptional leader and asset to\nthe University of Sydney School of Veterinary Science,\u201d a Faculty spokesperson\nsaid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allan was born in Auburn, NSW in 1966,\nand graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University, New\nZealand in 1993 before completing a PhD in clinical nutrition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a period in private practice,\nAllan became Director of the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in\n2004 and progressed to the head of the University\u2019s Institute of Veterinary,\nAnimal and Biomedical Sciences from 2009 to 2015.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrazer was pivotal in the rollout of\nan innovative new globally accredited veterinary curriculum, placing it amongst\nthe top in the world,\u201d the spokesperson said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After his work at Massey, Allan became\nDeputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) of Victoria University in Wellington, where\nhe worked to fortify ties between the University, industry, government partners\nand the community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allan joined the University of Sydney\nas Head of School and Dean of Veterinary Science in 2018.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean of the Faculty of Science,\nProfessor Iain Young, described Allan as an \u201cinspirational leader\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was admired by all as a leader who\ncared deeply for his staff and was highly influential in linking vet education\nwith vet practice,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe will be missed by all, but his\nlegacy of an exceptional Vet School will remain.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vice-Chancellor, Stephen Garton,\ndescribed the news of Allan\u2019s passing as \u201cshocking and upsetting.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI extend my heartfelt condolences to\nFrazer\u2019s loved ones, colleagues in the School and everyone across the\nUniversity of Sydney community who had the privilege of working with and\ngetting to know Frazer,\u201d Garton said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe will be missed.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent times Allan was unwavering in\nhis work to ensure students stuck overseas could successfully complete their\nstudies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allan\u2019s career honours include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2017 New Zealand Veterinary Association President\u2019s Award&nbsp;<\/li><li>2014 Massey University Service Excellence Award&nbsp;<\/li><li>2002 Massey Doctoral Scholar&nbsp;<\/li><li>1997 Massey University New Technology Development Award&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SAM WORRAD<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Frazer Allan has passed away from a heart attack, the University of Sydney has announced.&nbsp;
