After an extensive national recruitment process Tasmania’s newly appointed new Chief Veterinary Officer Kevin de Witte started work in January. In announcing the appointment Primary Industries and Water Minister Guy Barnett, said de Witte brought with him a wide range of knowledge and skills, having 35 years’ experience in the animal health and welfare industry, most recently as the Northern Territory’s CVO.
“The CVO position provides independent specialist and strategic advice on matters relating to livestock and wildlife disease and welfare management, and represents Tasmania’s position in national animal biosecurity, and animal welfare policy making forums,” he said.
De Witte’s appointment follows the retirement last year of Rod Andrewartha, who spent 19 years in the role.
